Where is it used

The most common use is in burglar alarms to keep track of opening doors and windows so that users do not forget to close them when the alarm system is activated.
Access control systems also use magnetic contacts to keep track of the doors in the access control system. For these to work well, the position of the doors must be reported at all times so that a door is not forced without the correct authorization, that doors are not kept open for too long or are left open.
In technical alarm systems, it may be of interest that doors to cold rooms, freezers, ventilation hatches and the like are only open when they are allowed to be, in order to save the environment and energy resources.

How does it work

A magnetic contact has two parts, the contact with one or more reed switches and the magnet. In its neutral position the reed switch remains closed under the force of the magnetic field. Opening the object being monitored increases the distance between the reed switch and the magnet. This reduces the influence of the magnetic field on the reed switch until it opens and activates an alarm. In all Alarmtech contacts only the highest quality and performance switches are used. With excellent contact function down to 1 microampere and with extremely long operating life makes Alarmtech contacts ideal for the most demanding applications.
The Alarmtech contacts are designed for mounting on steel doors, safes, filing cabinets, gates and roll-up garage doors. There are many specially designed accessories for this kind of applications. Mounting on steel does not drain the magnet however, the magnetic field is diverted from the contact that reduce its magnetic field and hence a reduced gap is required.

How are they fitted

On the opening moving part we attach a magnet part and on the fixed part we attach a contact part with the possibility to connect to a higher-level system such as a control panel in an intruder alarm system, a door control unit in an access control system or a data sub-center in a technical alarm system.
When everything is at rest, the magnetic field of the magnet keeps the contact part of the contact reed switch in the normal position. If the magnet is moved, i.e. if the door is opened, the magnetic field loses the contact reed element and an abnormal position is the result, which is then signaled to the higher-level system, which can take the necessary action.

High security contacts

To further increase security, Alarmtech add an extra reed to protect against an extra magnet is used to overcome the magnetic contact, we call High Security Contacts. It is a magnetic contact that is very difficult to manipulate, for example to prepare for a future burglary. The special thing about these contacts is that there is an extra reed with an internal small magnet to form a special relationship with the outer magnet that makes it very difficult to manipulate. You need to know how to install this type of magnetic contacts, and the result is always a very safe installation that meets the highest alarm grades according to current standards.

Choosing the Right Solution

The Alarmtech universal magnetic contacts are used in alarm systems, access control systems and fire alarm systems to protect doors, gates and windows against unauthorized opening.
The design of the contacts also makes them suitable for mounting on steel fire doors, safes, filing cabinets and roll-up garage doors. Alarmtech magnetic contacts are specially designed to meet the modern Security industry´s need for high quality.
