Enhanced Glass Protection

Glass surfaces are integral components of many spaces, from windows and doors to delicate glass cabinets in museums and shops. Monitoring these surfaces is paramount for security, but it's not just a matter of surveillance—it's about understanding the nuances of glass types and selecting the right detection method
With our range of detectors and expertise, we offer tailored solutions for every glass monitoring need. Whether it's protecting ordinary float glass, tempered glass, or laminated glass, we have the tools and knowledge to safeguard your space effectively.

Fact Box

  • Types of Detectors:

    • Glued Glass Break Detectors: Detectors that are designed to be glued directly to the glass surface for monitoring panes of standard, tempered and laminated glass.
    • Acoustic Glass Break Detectors: Detectors designed to acoustically detect attempts to break into a protected area by breaking a window or pane of glass. Offers reliable protection for monitoring one or multiple panes of standard, tempered and laminated glass.

  • Key Features:

    • Glued Detectors: Suitable for most glass types including standard, tempered and laminated glass. Easy installation process.
    • Acoustic Detectors: One detector can monitor multiple windows in a room including standard glass, tempered and laminated glass. Wide detection range 1-9m. Anti-mask function in some models for high security installations.

  • Compliance and Approvals:

    • EN Grade 2 and EN Grade 3 certified
    • VdS , INCERT and other European approvals.

Where is it used

Glass is the weakest point in a security installation and according to Google's statistics, 25% of burglaries happen through windows. Intruders can break the glass to unlock the windows or create an entry point.
There are many different glass surfaces that may be of interest to monitor such as standard windows in shop windows, sliding glass doors, glass in official buildings and private homes. But also display cabinets of various kinds in museums and shops may need to be monitored.
Alarmtech can offer two solutions for monitoring standard windows, tempered glass and laminated glass. One solution is to use glued glass break detectors that are glued directly to the glass to be monitored.
Another solution is to use acoustic glass break detectors that are mounted in the same room as the glass to be monitored.

How does it work

A passive glued glass break detector are glued directly to a single window pane without cracks in order to detect the vibration bulk wave, which is created inside the glass when the glass breaks. A multi-pane window therefore requires one detector on each pane of glass. The detector can be used in a very noisy environment for 24-hours protection without problem. They only detect the shattering of a glass pane and are not affected by surrounding noises. The sensor element is a piezo-electric crystal, which pick up the pulse of the vibration bulk wave which is created inside the glass when the glass breaks. The analyzing electronic in the sensor are tuned to a very high frequency to select distinguish between noises created from the outside world and a real break. The detector requires no maintenance and are easy to install. One detector has the coverage area of a radius of 2 m per pane of glass. The detector can also be used to protect glass with security film, if the detector is mounted directly on the glass and not on the film.

How are they fitted

A glued glass break detectors must be glued to a single window-pane in order to detect the vibration bulk wave, which is created inside the glass when the glass breaks. A multi-pane window therefore requires one detector on each pane of glass. The glass break detector is based on a piezoelectric crystal designed for surveillance of standard windows, shop windows, glass-sliding doors and other vulnerable glass surfaces. It can also be used for surveillance of tempered glass and laminated glass. It is very resistant to any irrelevant disturbances on the glass and in the surroundings. This makes it ideal for 24-hours loop perimeter protection.
Alarmtech can offer you two series of glued glass break detectors:

GD 300 series for Float and Tempered glass
GD 400 series for all types of glass

How does it work

When a glass is broken, signals are propagated as mechanical waves through the room from the broken pane of glass to the acoustic glass break detector that monitors the pane. These signals are picked up by the acoustic glass breaker detector, which processes the signals to determine whether it is a real glass breaker sound or other disturbing signals. To process the signal, we have mimicked how the human brain processes these signals. For this we use advanced mathematics to transform the signals. The acoustics in a room are affected by several factors such as size and design, furniture and material on the walls, etc.
Great efforts have been made to ensure the operation of the detector in the field. Since the applications are so different and the acoustics vary so much in different rooms, it is extremely important to ensure that the acoustic signal is received correctly. This is where the Digital Room Compensation (DRC) differentiates the AD 800 series from other detectors.

How are they fitted

An acoustic glass break detector is mounted on the ceiling or on the wall, opposite the glass to be protected. One acoustic glass breaker detector can monitor one or more panes of glass in a room. The acoustic glass break detector listens for the specific sound that occurs when a glass surface breaks. The detector is based on the latest microprocessor technology that can distinguish a real glass breaker signal from other interference signals, which ensures high immunity to false alarms. The detector can monitor different glass types such as standard glass, tempered glass and laminated glass.
Alarmtech can offer you two models of acoustic glass break detectors:

AD 800 for all types of glass
AD 800-AM for all types of glass with anti-mask function

Choosing the Right Solution

By using Alarmtech glass break detectors you will get reliable and safe detection of both standard, tempered and hardened glass when used in perimeter security to provide early detection before the intruder has entered the monitored object.

Ordinary glass, float glass

When crushed becomes large and very sharp shards. This type of glass is usually used in windows and doors in homes and offices

Tempered glass

Recognized by the fact that it always has a manufacturing stamp, when crushed it becomes thousands of very small pieces. This type of glass is used in shop windows, for example, as it is very scratch-resistant

Laminated glass

This is two or more sheets of glass, which are joined together to form a thick sheet of glass. Laminated glass is used in public spaces, banks, shop windows, prisons and in new modern glass facades
